Thanksgiving
This year, there will be no leftovers.
After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts - the birthplace of the holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings are soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan.
Why watch Thanksgiving
Patrick Dempsey trades his scrubs for genuine dread in this gleefully twisted slasher that asks: what if Thanksgiving had a final girl—and a killer with a manifesto? Thanksgiving channels the anarchic energy of Scream meets the baroque brutality of Terrifier, weaponizing American holiday nostalgia into something genuinely unsettling. The premise alone—a masked killer stalking Plymouth, Massachusetts with a turkey-carving agenda—is audacious enough to work, but the film commits fully to its premise with inventive kills and a mystery that actually unfolds rather than spins its wheels.
What elevates this beyond typical slasher fare is the craft underneath: crisp editing, a pace that never lets you exhale, and cinematography that makes small-town Americana look like a hunting ground. Dempsey's weathered presence anchors the ensemble, while the supporting cast leans into the chaos without winking at the camera. This isn't Scream's self-aware irony or Terrifier's nihilism—it's something sharper: a horror film that actually believes in its twisted logic.
If you've been craving a slasher with teeth—one that respects the genre's rules while breaking them with purpose—this is your night. Thanksgiving doesn't just kill time; it uses it, building dread through specificity and commitment. You'll be debating the killer's twisted ideology and rewatching the kills for weeks.

There is a void to fill regarding a yearly _Thanksgiving_ franchise. The Carver is outrageous enough to be more enjoyable if Eli Roth allows other directors to play in his grotesque cornbread-stuffing-filled sandbox in future installments. As a standalone film, _Thanksgiving_ leans more into the dumb than it does fun and will likely leave viewers feeling nauseous, especially if they see the film on a belly full of cr…Show more

Though it's very formulaic, this film, it's still at the better end of recent gore-fests. We start off with the most unlikely of scenarios - a Thanksgiving sale at a supermarket that goes spectacularly and violently wrong. The population of the founding father's very own Plymouth in Massachusetts become frenetic and determined to do whatever it takes to get into this store and get their free waffle iron! Anyway, a gr…Show more
Thanksgiving follows the "by-the-numbers" horror formula. There is little that's new on offer here and its at times. downright gratuitous, where a little originality, would have paid, better dividends. That's not to say its not watchable. On a very superficial level, it is. Acting is solid and the well paced scares, are effective. Yet, the sad fact remains, this is yet another unremarkable entry in a sea of un…Show more
Fun yet formulaic entry into the thanksgiving horror genre. Some funny & gory kills and really slimy dumb characters make the first 2/3rds of movie quite enjoyable, however in the 3rd act there is a switch in the mood and tone from fun satire to self-serious & sadistic horror which makes for a boring finale. Despite it's flaws, Eli Roth's Thanksgiving has franchise potential and that's something to be thankful for.
Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving is exactly what you’d expect from the director of Hostel; gory, outrageous, and packed with shocking kills. It’s a fun and bloody holiday slasher that’s entertaining enough if you enjoy Roth’s over-the-top style. The premise of a Thanksgiving-themed horror movie is a great idea, and the film delivers on some of that promise with creative kills and moments of real tension. However, the movie…Show more
