Why watch Rise of the Footsoldier 3: The Pat Tate Story
Craig Fairbrass embodies pure menace as Pat Tate, the Essex gangster whose meteoric rise through the criminal underworld is told with the gritty authenticity of a Goodfellas prequel filtered through British crime-drama intensity. This isn't sanitized gangster mythology—it's a visceral, street-level account of how ambition and violence forge a kingpin, anchored by a performance that radiates barely contained danger from frame one.
The film moves with propulsive momentum, trading the glossy excess of prestige crime dramas for the claustrophobic, unglamorous reality of 1980s Essex muscle. Director Julian Gilbey leans into handheld realism and sparse dialogue, letting violence and power plays speak louder than exposition. The supporting cast—anchored by the charisma of Shaun Ryder—reinforces a world where loyalty is currency and betrayal is terminal.
This is essential viewing if you crave crime cinema that doesn't apologize for its darkness or romanticize its protagonist. Unlike franchise entries that often dilute their edge, The Pat Tate Story doubles down on moral ambiguity and brutal consequence, delivering the raw energy of The Gentlemen with the sociopathic precision of a True Detective cold open. You'll be discussing Tate's final gamble for weeks.

In my opinion, it's flat throughout. There's a few decent scenes, but they are too far apart to have any effect. This plot would've been better as a short story, or as part of an anthology film. There's not enough there for a full blown film. Cra…Show more
