Together, they wage a valiant supernatural struggle to rid the city of an otherworldly evil.
Why watch Deliver Us from Evil
Eric Bana's weathered cop confronts something no precinct manual prepared him for: a New York City gripped by demonic possession. Director Scott Derrickson (who'd later helm Doctor Strange) anchors this supernatural thriller in gritty procedural reality, making the jump to the supernatural feel inevitable rather than absurd. When a Jesuit priest whispers that evil is literal and walking the streets, Bana's skepticism crumbles in real time—and so does yours.
The film moves with the propulsive dread of a prestige crime drama that slowly peels back into cosmic horror. Derrickson's visual language is restrained until it isn't; he lets long stretches of tense investigation breathe before unleashing moments of genuine visceral shock. The chemistry between Bana's hardened detective and Edgar Ramírez's unorthodox priest creates an unexpectedly compelling odd-couple dynamic that grounds the escalating madness.
This is for anyone who loved the methodical unease of Se7en or the theological weight of The Exorcist—it's a film that respects your intelligence enough to build dread through character and atmosphere rather than jump scares. You'll walk away convinced that Bana's final confrontation with evil, both external and internal, will haunt you long after the credits roll.

Horror means there's no big scary stuff in it, still being tru…Show more
